10 ways to help the stray animals other than taking one from a shelter

Our houses aren’t infinite and if you already have a dog or a cat considering taking another animal may be a bad idea

Somebody is forced to always live In rented apartments, where animals are allowed very rarely. Somebody often moves out because of work.

And knowing that they cannot help the homeless animals, such person get that off their mind and just doesn’t care.

But there’re many other ways to help them!

      1. Donations

Donate to the fund of the organization engaged in assistance to stray animals is the easiest option. But it has its disadvantages: you will never be 100% sure that your money really went for a good intention.

Some shelters do not have material difficulties at all, but only need volunteers.

The best option is to buy what you need in person. It may be food, medicine, leashes and collars, flea medicines - just about anything. The list of what is required can be obtained from the shelter.

      2. Giving away unnecessary stuff

It is not only about special dog things (bowl, collar, etc.). Often shelters require warm blankets, pillows, mattresses. Even old bed linen can come in handy, any rags.

      3. Share information

Nowadays, social networks are the most powerful tool to influence people. Reposting photos of a homeless man who is looking for a home will not cost you anything, but can be very helpful. The very information about the shelter activities should be distributed.

The more people are aware of the problem, the easier it is to solve it. And if the public response is good, the administration can also be involved - they need to maintain a good image.

      4. Help in transporting the animals

A big problem is the transportation of shelter dogs to and from the veterinary clinic. Special pet cab is not available in every city and is very expensive.

Assistance in transporting large dogs is invaluable. If you have your own car and some free time, there is nothing to help. In order not to worry about the cabin, you can order a special hammock at Aliexpress or just make the seat with an old plaid.

      5. Personal presence

Depending on which animals you like more - you can come once a week to play with cats or help with walking dogs. You can come with children. Socialization is the most important condition that allows an animal to find a home. Trying to find puppies and doing good deeds at the same time is ideal!

Most shelters are assisted with the help of the volunteers.

      6. Help with your own skills

Depending on what you love and know how to do, you can apply these skills for the benefit of animals. Beat up a booth, arrange an aviary, make a stretching post or any equipment with your hands.

Working with your own hands is not your best option? Accountant, lawyer - such consultations are usually expensive and often necessary for animal protectors. The weight of gold is appreciated by website developers, social media promotion specialists, journalists and copywriters.

Professional photos increase the chances of the animal to successfully find its masters.

Cynologists or just experienced dog breeders can help with dog training - it is very important for them to master the basic commands and skills of obedience.

      7. Animal Transfer Unit

Many animals feel terrible in the shelter, and they need an apartment for as long as there are no new masters. You can adopt a cat for a couple of weeks - this is a good option for those who are not sure that they want to adopt a cat for good. Or, on vacation, you can take your dog for a morning run.

      8. Support the shelter staff

It is very difficult to work when the results of your work are not visible. All efforts are useless, the salary is tiny, and the moral burden is huge. How not to fall into depression here? For each added puppy there are 8 new ones.

But such work does not smell like roses - employees not only feed and pet their "guests", but also clean up excrement, treat festering wounds and lichen kittens.

Expressing your gratitude to them is the best thing you can do. Even an ordinary card can lift people's spirits and motivation (and thus, make their wards' lives better). And if you bake cakes to order - why not make one for the local shelter? To order a pizza for the whole staff is even better than flowers!

      9. Sterilize animals

In those countries where pet castration is mandatory, the number of homeless animals tends to zero.

Although most believe that neutering stray dogs and cats will solve the problem, the facts are stubborn. Most animals find themselves on the street from our homes. Think again about whether you can add 6 kittens from your pet.

      10. Support companies and manufacturers that take care of homeless animals

By the way, your company may become one of such - offer the idea to the management. In the zoo you can see signs similar to the lemur Eirene is protected by the pet store "Le'Mourre".

Why not take care of one orphanage dog - to buy him food.

About 11 ways we promised not to mention in the title of the article - to take the animal from the street or in the shelter, and not to buy it from the breeder.

But I just want to remind you that a shelter pet will be sterilized, chipped, grafted, treated with parasites and with a known character.
